Alessandro Tofanelli














Alessandro Tofanelli's favourite subject is Landscape. From this perspective he is wonderfully able to embrace his heartfelt philosophy of time and memory. In his unique style Tofanelli's compositions are beautifully conveyed in such a way as to gently reflect and evoke those memories in the flow of time.

Born in 1959 in Viareggio, Italy, Alessandro Tofanelli graduated from the Institute of Art in Lucca in 1977 and further attended the Brera Academy of Art in Milan. He worked as an illustrator for Rizzoli and Mondadori both serious Italian publishers. In 1975 he was awarded First Prize for his painting La Resistenza exhibited in the Gallery of Modern Art in Lucca. Recognized as the most promising young Italian artist Alessandro Tofanelli also won the Ina Touring Competition prize at the Palace Strozzi in Florence. He progressed to win the acclaimed Giotto d'Oro Prize in 1984 and the Best Painter under 35 Years of Age in 1987.

Alessandro Tofanelli has exhibited his work in prestigious galleries internationally, inclusive Gallery of Contemporary Art in Arezzo, The International Museum of Contemporary Art in Milan, Galleria Seen in London, The Jellyfish Gallery in New York, International Art Fair Istanbul, Halex Ho Gallery in Hong Kong, Trade Centre in Singapore, Himmelberger Gallery in San Francisco and Albemarle Gallery in London.

The artist Tofanelli has always combined his painting with his work as a professional photographer and video documentarian. In 2005 he was honoured for the award winning film Contronatura (Unnatural) at N.I.C.E. (New York Italian Cinema Events) in New York, San Francisco and Saint Petersburg.
